Amanda Underwood, a native of Clayton with deep generational roots and a longtime advocate for civic improvement, has announced her candidacy for Clayton Town Council. She officially filed for office on July 17. “I’ve been advocating for a better Clayton since I was in fourth grade,” said Underwood. “As a student, I took some of my very first photographs to document the condition of the old Clayton Elementary School and wrote letters asking for change. Even back then, I believed Clayton could—and should—do better for its residents. That same spirit of advocacy still drives me today.” As Clayton continues to grow, Underwood believes the Town needs steady, thoughtful leadership that reflects the full diversity and talent of the community. Her campaign emphasizes transparent decision-making, ethical governance, and a commitment to listening to residents.

“I love Clayton. It’s not just where I live—it’s part of who I am.”

“Many people feel like their voices aren’t being heard,” she said. “They want a Council that operates openly, invites expertise, and works in the public’s best interest—not behind the scenes. That’s what I want, too.”

Underwood brings decades of experience in strategic communications, public engagement, and creative problem-solving. Her platform includes improving civic transparency, elevating professional standards in Town operations, and building a culture of trust between local government and the people it serves.

“I love Clayton. It’s not just where I live—it’s part of who I am,” said Underwood. “I believe in responsible growth, open communication, and inclusive leadership that reflects the strengths of our whole community. Clayton’s best days are ahead of us, and I want to help us get there with integrity, creativity, and care.”
