Hi, I’m Amanda Underwood.

I’m running for Clayton Town Council because I believe our local government should work for everyone, not just the few who already know the right doors to knock on. As a Clayton native with deep roots in this town, I’ve seen firsthand how transparency and accountability can shape stronger communities. I’m not a politician—I’m your neighbor, and I’m ready to listen, ask tough questions, and work for the Clayton we all deserve.

Let’s build a town that values its people, supports local voices, and plans for a future we can all be proud of.

Meet Amanda

Amanda Underwood is a lifelong advocate for Clayton, where she now lives downtown with her family just a few miles from where she grew up. Amanda has been working to make her hometown better since childhood, starting with letters to local leaders in fourth grade.

She holds a degree in Political Science from UNC Chapel Hill and brings nearly two decades of professional experience in strategic communications, design, and public engagement. Amanda is the founder of Underwood Creative, where she helps clients across North Carolina and beyond build compelling brands, design accessible websites, and communicate with clarity and purpose.

Amanda believes Clayton is a place full of promise and possibility, but it needs leadership that listens, includes, and plans for the long term. Her campaign for Town Council centers on transparency, responsible growth, and raising the standard for how government serves its people. Amanda’s not just from here—she’s for here. And she’s ready to help lead Clayton with integrity, creativity, and care.

Let’s Move Clayton Forward—Together

Transparency & Accountability

Residents deserve to know where their money goes, how decisions are made, and who benefits from them. I’ll push for open processes, stronger oversight, and more accessible information—because sunlight is the best disinfectant.

Support for Local Business & Local Talent

We have amazing small businesses and creatives right here in Clayton—yet too often, the Town outsources work that could be done locally. I’ll advocate for fair treatment of local vendors and real investment in our own people.

Smart, Community-Centered Growth

Growth is inevitable, but we need to grow with intention. That means supporting infrastructure, housing diversity, and policies that work for everyday residents, not just developers.

Affordable Living & Utility Transparency

No one should be priced out of the town they’ve always called home. Let’s make utility billing clearer, zoning fairer, and housing policies more inclusive so that everyone has a place here.
